Al Lun's starting a conversation and a document to specify the requirements of DIBR.

The following is a gist of it.

Diversity Beam does not equal Diversity in Business Resources

Purpose

Diversity Beam 0.1 is a subsite of Community Beam, which is a demo of using technology to ignite the BEAM (Build, Enable, Activate, Model) to build out a vision of shared opportunity and responsibility

BEAM showcases the TARP (Transparency, Accountability, Responsiveness and Process-centric) attributes of community initiatives

- To show we can easily very powerful modern cloud based things such as dynamic search

- Connectivity to anchor projects and organizations in the community

It started from the principle of enabling collaboration and re-using of community assets to avoid unintentional overlaps so that

- Resources can be used more efficiently

J2G's Diversity in Business Resource (DIBR) project is

An electronically formatted resource to provide information and contacts targeting diverse individuals interested in starting a business in our J2G region

To flesh out its objective, I have started an online document to elaborate and refine on DIBR's design requirements.

Implementation Status

During DIBR prototyping phase, I will be evolving the home page of Diversity Beam to incrementally evolve the design with the team's expectation of DIBR.

Please note that until a DIBR Version 1 is released, Diversity Beam should only be viewed as a prototype.

About Beam
  • For the commercial sector, we tend to register startup activities (new companies and new commercial projects) that bring diversification and high-impact opportunities to the area.
  • For the non-profit sector, we wish to shine light on all the organizations and services that otherwise labor under relative obscurity.
  • Our hope is that dmcbeam.org will encourage cross-sector collaborations and creative solutions.

While there are a number of registries in the community, dmcbeam.org's  distinct value is to pilot a database with a data structure and categorizations that answer the questions such as: What organizations or projects/programs in our community that have purported relevance with some of the over-arching focuses put forward by initiatives such as DMC, J2G and Health Improvements?

This database could be used as one of the ways to explore the capacities of the community. If you are someone on an exploratory journey to learn about the greater Rochester community. dmcbeam.org could be an interesting first step.
