We have reached a milestone in our journey 🎓 RSVP to join us: journieproject@gmail.com. Our youth who suffer trauma in various ways have successfully completed the 8 Steps to Promotion Workshop. The workshop is an 8 week program that focuses on life skills. Despite the challenges they continue to face at home and in society they continued dedicating their time to personal growth. Because of that, we want to acknowledge their hard work and efforts by giving them memorable experiences outside of their local neighborhoods to expand their creative conscience. Each year Diversity Council hosts the MLK Youth Poetry Contest in southeastern Minnesota. Students from all over the region are invited to submit poems celebrating Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. This is the 14th year of Diversity Council's poetry contest, and the theme for this year’s contest is Dr. King’s quote: “People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

As part of the White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health and the Mayor’s Alliance to End Childhood Hunger by 2030, Mayor Norton is coordinating a short-term City-wide task force to develop a blueprint to achieve the goals. There will also be an opportunity to share what is already happening in our community as well as sharing ideas for partnership and promoting other’s activities. (Resources noted below.)
