Technovation SE Minnesota is looking for Mentors!
The Technovation program, focused on getting middle school and high school girls exposed to programming, and what it takes to build a mobile application, was piloted in 2015 in SE MN. One of our five pilot teams, from Kasson-Mantorville Middle School, advanced all the way to global finals in San Francisco. After greatly increasing the number of girls participating in the 2016 program, teams from our region captured five of the seven qualifying slots statewide, with a St. Francis Catholic School team also qualifying for the Minnesota Cup competition by virtue of finishing first among Technovation[MN] middle school teams. Please see additional links below of highlights.
This year, we are looking to once again expand participation in SE MN and are in need of mentors who can provide guidance on user interface design, programming, business plans, competitive analysis, project management, or marketing. It's a 12 week structured program that begins in January 2017. Groups of up to five girls work in teams to develop mobile app “startups” that help solve problems in their communities. At the end of the season, each team competes in a state-wide competition in Minneapolis, with the winners moving on to regional and national competitions. If you are interested in mentoring, or getting additional information, please fill out this survey, and join us for Mentor Information Day on Wednesday November 9thfrom 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
Thank you for your consideration. We would greatly appreciate it if you share this invitation with others who you think may be interested.
